Shelly and Livolo touch switches

  • Hello,

I have a technical issue, and I really hope you can help me find a solution:

I got a bunch of Shelly switches (1, 2.5, dimmer, RGBW etc.) and Livolo touch switches which I want to hook together.

The Livolo switches are simple - no wifi, RF or other smart feature. Also, they do not connect to null line but they do rely on the potential from the component (lamp etc.) in order to operate - since it's a touch product and uses relays.

When I connect the Livolo switch (any switch) to a Shelly (any Shelly) - it does not turn on at all. I learned that it's because the Shelly does not supply the required potential.

I went ahead and ordered the "Livolo Load" / "Livolo Led Adapter" - which basically acts as a dummy load, connected to the null line and to the L out of the switch in order to supply power to the switch.

When I connect it, the switch does turn on, but the Shelly always sees it as "on" state. From what I can understand and read online - it might be because the switch always outputs some current, meaning that in "off" state it outputs around 5-6VAC, but I also measured 110VAC one time (my main current is 240VAC).

Is there any way, any component or connection method I can use in order to make it work?

I am highly invested in both Shelly units AND Livolo units - I have a large quantity, and at this point a transfer to a different product will involve high costs.

    Really hope you can help.

  • Hello, I do not see a chance, that they will work together directly. Shellies are considering both neutral and live potential at their inputs as „active“. Only a real „open“ is seen as „inactive“.

The only work around would be to let the Livolo switch a relay, and the NO contact of the relay would control the Shelly input.

  • Hi, thanks for your answer.

The relay solution isn't quite practical, because of space & noise.

I won't be able to fir 2 or 3 relays in a box behind a switch + a Shelly unit.

Is there anything I can do using a resistor / diode / some other component?

  • To solve the issue, you may try this:

(Potential at both L points should be the same!. Shelly 1L without neutral wire and Shelly Dimmer2 are not suited for this method!)

The resistor prohibits the activation of Shelly‘s SW input with live potential. Thus, the Shelly input is activated by neutral potential only. As a consequence, button type has to be set to „reverse input“.

Attention please: The resistor is a security-relevant part! I offer gladly to supply a ready-to-use part which is double isolated. Please contact me via PM if interested.
