Roller calibration with different endpoint consumptions

  • Hi,

Hi have 2 shelly 2.5 devices, one attached to a motorized tent and another to a roller. Until yesterday i used them without roller function, but the possibility to set the opening percentage is very useful so I tried to configure them properly.

The tent worked like a charm, the calibration was successful at the first attempt and works very welly.

The roller, unforunately not. I tried all the tips for calibration. I tried even the method of monitoring the consumption when opening and closing are completed, but my situation is the following:

    - when the roller reaches the "closed" position, consumption goes to 0W

    - during the opening the roller consumes about 170W

    - when it reaches the "open" position, the consumption rises from the 170W to a variable range, from 190W to 205W.

If I set 192W using the url provided in your tips, the calibration works until the roller is full opened, but when it starts closing it suddenly stops and say "calibration completed". So the device thinks that the roller is fully closed while it's actually nearly fully opened.

I tried to workaround the problem using the obstacle detection function to detect the full opening, but calibration stops when reaching the open position.

There is a way to manage this situation or I shound go back to my old setting, handling up and down as 2 separate switches?

    Thank you in advance.

P.S. while awaiting response i'm trying to manage opening and closing via url. I tried the following:

    http://x.x.x.x/settings/roller/0?go=close

but it returns all the JSON without doing anyting. where am I wrong? Thanks again!

  • UPDATE: I figured out that the problem was probably due to wrong motor calibration. The roller motor kept working because there was no hardware endpoint set. So I reconnected the shelly2.5 and I have one more problem: the switch 01 works fine, but the switch 02 is always on, regardless its status. Whenever I connect the cable the roller starts moving. I connected the cables in the same way they where when all was working correctly. I tried to factory reset, without any result.

Maybe it's a hardware problem? Please help me :-(

Hey, and welcome to the forum.

You got another Shelly 2.5 to trade?

It sounds like a hardware problem, and if output 2 is always on on the Shelly, it could also cause damage to the shutter.

Please do not continue testing with this Shelly device.

    LG Michael

  • No, unfortunately I haven't another device... I bought a set of 2 a couple of months ago, but the other one is already mounted and working flawlessly. Like this one before I tried to switch to roller mode. There is a warranty program and, if yes, how can apply for it?

    Thank you in advance.

  • UPDATE: I think it's definitely a hardware problem... I hit 2/3 times the device with the handle of the screwdriver and it started to work normally. Weird...
