Shelly 1L with Bypass UK Wiring

  • Hello,

Apologies if this has been answered but I've searched the forums as well as Google on this topic but I can't find a clear answer.

I'll looking to install the Shelly 1L with no neutral behind the light switch (UK wiring). I understand how to install this but I believe I will require the Shelly Bypass in some locations.

I have a room which only has 2 LED 10W downlights which I believe may not be enough to power the 1L. My question is, can I install the bypass with the Shelly 1L in the lightswitch back box (the boxes are 47mm and looks like I would have enough space) or does it have to be connected at the downlight?

The other question is more to confirm that the 1L should work without the bypass behind a switch controlling 3 or more 10W downlights? Thank you in advance.

    Kiran

  • A bypass MUST be installed between neutral and the lamp wire. Thus, if you should find a neutral wire in the switch box, you could install the bypass there! But: A neutral wire at the place where Shelly is installed makes a bypass completely obsolete!

Hence I assume you’ll NOT find a neutral wire in switch box and must install the bypass at the lamp…

  • Thank you thgoebel, putting it like that gave me a real "D'oh" moment! Such an obvious answer, sorry for the trouble.

I'm going to continue on the rooms with 3 or more 10W downlight, hopefully that won't be an issue, will then take a look at the room with just 2 10W spots, anyway thank you for your help.
