Shelly Uni frozen (no response to input) after power outage

  • Hello,

My shelly uni, with latest firmware (20220209-095044/v1.11.8-g8c7bb8d), has stopped responding to input 1 (just a switch). So it has lost the information if the input was closed or opened. I could still control relays without a problem. Device restart has fixed it. I'm powering it with 24AC as it is used to control rain sensor input of my irrigation system.

    Is this a known issue?

  • This issue could be a result of the supply with AC. In this thread (unfortunately in German language) some hints are given to ensure a seamless operation with AC input signals:

„Habt Geduld. Alle Dinge sind schwierig, bevor sie einfach werden!“ (aus Frankreich)

„Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.“ (Marie Curie, 1867-1934)

„Es reicht nicht“, rief Schiller, „Gedankenfreiheit zu fordern, man muß auch denken können, sonst fordert man Gedankenlosigkeitsfreiheit und die ist die Freiheit zur Dummheit, welche wiederum die schlimmste Unfreiheit überhaupt ist!“

  • Many thanks! I was hoping to have a simple device, based on that thread I'm not sure if just adding a diode will fix the issue. And a bit strange is that it worked ok for quite some time already, only once the issue when the power was cut and restart of shelly uni was resolving it... In worst case I'll add a DC transformer or switch to a different device. Actually I've just checked and the sensor switch is rated at 230V so I could be able to use Shelly 1 without any additional transformer/power supply.

  • Give it a try and add a diode in series to the digital input of your Shelly UNI! From a statistical perspective, AC signals at the digital input are triggering the UNI in about 40% of all cases…
