Dimmer 2 not working with a Light Fitting with 24 LED lamps

  • I am a newbie to the Shelly world, but thought I would try them out.

I am in the UK and my wall switch only has the Live feed (red) and Switched feed (black) back to the ceiling fitting.

The ceiling fitting has an Aurora electronic transformer rated between 35-105W/VA

The 24no. LED lamps are 2.5W LED Bi-pin Lights 260lm Dimmable G4 type.

When I connect the permanent feed to my L terminal (red wire) and the O terminal to the switched live (black) the whole ceiling fitting flashes and will not stop even when the Shelly has booted up.

It now appears that the Shelly will not boot up completely as the red indicator is not alight.

Should I install the Shelly By-Pass at the ceiling fitting, as the current draw will initially be low as the transformer has a soft start feature.

Although I have read recently of cases where the By-Pass has inexplicably blown in a few cases!

I have read that if I have a neutral wire the device may work correctly.

Does anyone have any advice or a definitive answer to the question will the Dimmer 2 work with multiple LED light fitting?

    Any help much appreciated, thanks.

  • Please check if the electronic transformer is dimmable!

And, by the way: Welcome to the forum!

  • Hmm. Please try to check if Shelly Dimmer2 is working correctly with another type of lamp, e.g. incandescent bulb. This is necessary to assure Dimmer2 is o.k.

Yep, tried that. I had to remove the ceiling lamp to fit the new transformer and replaced with a 100W lamp. I was able to control fully with the app and recalibrate the dimming function, update the software and all appeared to be well.
