Shelly 1L relay not firing

  • I wired up a Shelly 1L on a 2-way switch, as per diagram here: https://m.facebook.com/groups/ShellyI…206878702744805

Initially, all was well. However after a few minutes and a few more clicks of the physical lightswitches, the lights became stuck in the permanently 'on' state.

The Shelly 1L still responds to the physical light switches (I can see the relay state change in the app when the physical switches are clicked) however the relay does not seem to disengage the power from L terminal to O terminal. The sound of the relay 'click' is very faint, compared to other Shelly 1L relays that I have where is quite a noticeable 'click' when the relay fires.

Could I have killed the relay somehow? The lights it was controlling are a couple of fluorescent tube lights which seem to draw about 200W from what I can tell.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Fluorescent lights are known to produce high inrush current while starting. This may have sticked the relay contact. A slight knocking on the Shelly may help to free the contact, but the contact is possibly be flawed by the first event. Try to use other kind of lighting or install a sort of inrush current limiter!

  • I have also noticed this issue, however, the only times I have had the 'sticking' occur is when I have had my LED batton lights turned on for a period of time (running at around 150W). Previously, to get around this issue, I swapped the Shelly 1L out for a spare that I had. When I tested the unit I removed, it worked perfectly. However, the replacement unit has just now displayed the same error. The switch state changes, but the light itself does not turn off; it remains on.

I don't feel like this is due to a high inrush current. Knocking it seemed to fix it, so maybe it's also to do with how hot the relay gets over time?

  • I have the same issue. I connected the shelly 1L to 2 led bulbs (20 w each one) without neutral, and without bypass. Initially the shelly works great, but some switchs later the bulbs remain ON. I can hear the switch ON and OFF but louder when the bulbs really switch's the first times. Another difference is that I updated the firmware to the last version, I don't know if the problem is after the update.

If I turn OFF the switch and then Knocking it seemed to fix it and the bulbs turn off, but blinking. When I turn ON the shelly works OK and the bulbs are ON without blinking, but some time after if I turn OFF the shelly the bulbs remain ON and I need to Knocking the shelly another time. It seems a problem with heating?. And why the bulbs blink in off mode?.

Please I have two shelly 1L with the same problem. I need a solution for this.

    Thanks,

    Jose
