Short Circuit - Shelly 3EM

  • Hello,

Did anyone had this issue when first plugged in / turned on? The terminal block made a short between varistor leg (high voltage side of the transformer for PCB power) and phase C. I find it quite odd, especially the location. The wires were set up in the right way (checked it couple of times).

Varistor is also damaged, and who knows what else...

    Fuse still ok.

  • Thanks for the idea, but I have not used those ports. If it was a short between I/O ports, then the relay, or it's ports would have been damaged.

  • IMHO, it was the end of the wire which was plugged into terminal C, that broke through the insulation of the lug and got in contact with the varistor. This caused the incident (see pic below).

If this presumption would be true, you (and other Shelly friends) should insert the wires into the lugs of Shelly 3EM very cautiously! Obviously, the insulation at the rear side of the lugs isn’t very durable…

  • Was my one of my thoughts too, but it's not highly probable, unless the backplate was missing at that (4th) terminal block.

Waiting to see what customer support will do in my case. :[

Other thoughts are more then welcome.

    Thanks so far.
