If the box with Shelly Dimmer2 is self contained (mains plug and jacks for the lamps with no other connections), this arrangement will work. The box with Dimmer2 may contain a manual switch or button to switch the lamp. Otherwise you could switch the lamp via App or WebUI only. Please have a look at the connection diagrams in the „lexicon“!

OK, I just closed my eyes, held my breath, and plugged it in, and it worked :D

    Thanks again for your answer!

    vielen dank for your answer.

However, I am still confused. I looked at the diagrams, and in all of them it clearly shows that the line goes to line and neutral goes to neutral. I had this particular dimmer previously connected inline with a wall mounted light (diagram), now I am trying to do the same thing, but, the position of L and N in this case will depend on how you insert the plug into the electric socket. So, if you say this arrangement will work, this means it should be fine if the polarity is switched between L and N, right?

BTW, I don't care about control or using the switch inputs, since this will be controlled by a smart button via home assistant.

    Dear Shelly Support,

I have a question that I couldn't find an answer to. I am trying to connect my two bedside lights to one shelly dimmer. These are regular night stand lights that use small bulb.

The question I am facing right now is with the polarity of the cable that is coming from the electric socket. Since there is no distinction between line and neutral on an electric socket, would this configuration work? In other words, if the line cable happens to go to the N input and the neutral goes to L, would that fry the dimmer, or would it still work?

    Many thanks for your help.

here is a sloution: thanks to WollyCGN and @Dimitar(Shelly team)

I see it now. I appreciate it was meant to make it easier, but it had the adverse effect of making it more confusing. I thought I needed to go to filebase first and then look for the button there, which would also qualify as being "button under filebase" ;)

Incidentally, a very thorough google search renders no useful results. Unless you know where exactly to look, you wouldn't be able to find it.

I was trying to set up shelly uni today, after connecting it to my local wifi hotspot, upon opening the web interface, I went to firmware update, and updated to the latest version (it seemed like it was released today). Now whenever it turns on I get the webpage but the time is not shown, and if I click on any section (settings/ internet and security ... etc) the device freezes, and nothing happens.

I tried factory reset two times with no success.

I looked online to find the older firmware to flash it using the gpios but couldn't find it.

    My main question is this:

Where do I find older versions of firmware?

But also I have another question, a more philosophical one:

Why are companies so eager to push updates that wreck devices for customers, instead of testing all aspects of the update and only publishing it if it is bringing value to customers? Why do y'all insist that WE, the customers, test whatever garbage your software developers are feeling like committing on any given day? Why do you make our lives more difficult by forcing us to do a work that you were supposed to do in the first place?

    Hi all,

A total noob here. I bought Shelly Uni to connect to my doorbell to integrate it into HA. The doorbell runs on around 17 volts DC, but shows very low Amp reading. When I connect the Uni to it, I get the red light on the uni, but I can't find the device WiFi hotspot. I tried finding it with Shelly app with no success. I am suspecting the low amperage might be the cause. If so, then what is the minimum amperage required to operate the uni, and what options would you suggest?
