OK, I appreciate the help Stefan. I am simply trying to understand the reasoning behind the steps to be better at supporting myself.
I have been able to connect for a short time and changed the settings to not use static IP. I have powered off and on the device after this. It appears I am still having the same results when trying to ping it. Sometimes it responds quickly and other times not at all

Just to confirm, do you want me to change it to dynamic IP address? Is there a problem with using static IP addresses or is this just to try to diagnosis where the issue is?

What should I check with DHCP?
The device is set to static IP. When I ping it I sometimes get no response and other times the response is over 2 seconds, sometimes it is normal at around 5ms.
I have setup my Shelly1 with a static IP and it is able to connect to my wifi and MQTT broker. The problem is that every 20 seconds or so it disconnects and then reconnects. This makes it very difficult to use via the web server as it does stay connect for long enough to diagnosis the fault.
Why would it be disconnecting?
