I wanted to automate the light in a room in my house, unfortunately it doesn't have a neutral line in the switch box. I chose the Shelly Dimmer 2 as it says that without a neutral you need to have a load of at least 10W. The lights in my room are a strip of 4 spot lights with 4.4w LED bulbs - many of the other products require a load of at least 20W - hence why i chose this one (I'm not interested in the dimming).
After installing the Shelly in the light switch box (without a bypass) it worked as expected - though it would flicker when the lights were supposed to be off. I felt that there may have also been a slight flicker when it was on - I played with the dimmer settings (leading/trailing edge) but with no effect. I thought that I could overcome this by installing a shelly bypass in the light fitting. This worked briefly, I could turn on/off the lights via the wall switch, though was unable to access it with the app.
Shortly after it blew up and tripped the breaker - the bypass is clearly damaged and the Shelly smells broken.
I bought the Bypass from proptimise.co.uk, I assume it is compatible - though it does mention on the package 110v-220v.
I'm assuming I've done something wrong and would really like to understand what - perhaps this may help someone else in the future.
I think next time I'll leave it to the professionals!
