Cannot connect WIFI for installation of Shelly 2.5

  • Hello everybody,

    I recently purchased several 2.5 Shelly for my rollershutters. 3 of them are working fine so far. But for 2 of them, I cannot complete installation. After wiring (like the other ones), I see WiFi AP of the device, start installation of it, but ones my phone (android) get connected to the local AP shelly wifi, I get an error:

    "Could not send WiFi settings to device shellyswitch25-XXX. The response from the device was: failed to connect to/192.168.33.1 (port 80) from / 100.121.61.131 (port 50576) after 1500ms.

    I already tried several time with factory reset. AP mode comes, but still the same issue. I also tried several places (including a place which works for another one). So it may not be WiFi signal.

    I'm a little bit lost, and with nothing else to test. Is there any alternative procedure to install device on my network?

    If Shelly is in AP-mode, it will have the IP-address 192.168.33.1 by default. Once you join its Wifi network, your smartphone should show 192.168.33.2 .

    If not, is DHCP in your phone not activated?

    I did the test: When connecting manually to the Shelly AP wifi, my phone gets 192.168.33.2 address. But I start the inclusion procedure with phone connected to my home network (DHCP activated). During procedure my phone connects to AP wifi and also gets 192.168.33.2 address, and I finally gets the same error message.

    Sometimes Shelly App doesn't detect shelly device to include during incusion procedure even though I can see the AP wifi by scanning it...

    I don't know if there's a link, but regularly, it takes a few seconds to see the device "online" in the App (Shelly cloud not activated yet on device): I need to go to the previous menu, and come back to see it. Same for parameters menu which doesn't show up every time. Link?

    In my experience the Shelly app does not always work.

    I recommend you connect manually to the Shelly AP with your Android phone and use a regular browser to open http://192.168.33.1 .

    Configure your Wifi access point and password over the homepage and the Shelly should afterwards be available in the app (you might need to refresh the app).

    Your procedure seems to work on the first device I tried. I didn't know that each device have a web interface. Shelly should improve their App, or at least explain this second way to connect the device to one's home WiFi...
