  • Hi, I tried the Shelly Wall Display and there are many good things already implemented. But there are many things still unsolved.

One thing is the missing virtual component support for text and other useful types.

I have some information I want to display there from other devices by REST or MQTT. As simple text would be a bare minimum to use ist in my Camper.

Is there a way around or is it not possible at the moment and also not in the near future?

  • The only way is to use a button and rename the useless button to show up on the screen like "Volume 15 L". But this is less beautiful and there isn´t also a solution for controlling something.

You are so right about that.

No real alternative, but a workaround would be the HomeAssistant screen. But then you have an extra system and leave the Shelly universe a litte bit.

  • But if I use the HomeAssistant .. in this case I would prefer an cheap Xiaomi Smartphone to use the HomeAssistant App in my Szenario .. and it´s another device consuming power.

In my case it´s in an CamperVan and less power consumtion would be nice and Shelly has already everything but not in the Wall Display :-(

  • I asked the shelly AI.

apparently it already has support for this!

Can i add a virtual component (text) as a virtual device to a shelly wall display x2 ?

Yes! The Shelly Wall Display X2 supports virtual components, including virtual text components. 📱 Based on the technical documentation, you can create virtual text components through scripts using the Virtual.Add method. Here's what you need to know: Virtual Text Components: - Available for Gen3 devices (which includes the Wall Display X2) - Can store string values and be displayed as virtual devices - Created and managed through scripts using the Virtual namespace - Limit of 10 virtual components per device How to use: - Use Virtual.Add to create a new virtual text component - Use Text.Set to update the text value - Configure it through Text.SetConfig For detailed implementation examples and script help, check our documentation at GitHub script examples or get community assistance at community.shelly.cloud. The Wall Display X2 will show these virtual text components as part of your smart home interface! 🏠✨

    but i think its lying.

lol man - i bought this display because i ASSuMEd that this was support, so i can display "other" status's on this device. oh man.
