Inquiry Regarding Battery Consumption Issue on Shelly Motion and Shelly TRV Devices

  • Dear Shelly Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to seek further information and assistance regarding an issue we are experiencing with some of our Shelly devices, specifically the Shelly Motion and Shelly TRV.

We have noticed an abnormal battery consumption pattern with certain devices, which are depleting their batteries every 20 to 25 days. Upon analyzing the logs of both functioning and non-functioning devices, we observed the following entries in the logs of the problematic devices:

    Code
    1709828040.041 minutes_tick: Beacon skip error!!!
    1709828040.046 set_powersave_state: Enter powersave state 1
    1709828045.856 set_powersave_state: Enter powersave state 3 (skip 20)

Could you please provide insights into what might be causing these log entries and the excessive battery drain? Additionally, we are seeking guidance on possible interventions or solutions to address this issue and extend the battery life of these devices.

Your prompt assistance in resolving this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this concern.

NOTE: all devices are at the same and firmware version.

    Best regards,

  • Bit late to reply back, but having the IP come from DHCP results in extra use of the WiFi radio, resulting in more battery usage. Also, when the reception is poor, retransmission(s) because of the TCP/IP protocol can cause battery drain. Are all devices on the same firmware (TRV and Motion on seperate versions of course)? Do the logs of your access points/wifi router show transmission errors for the devices that have poor battery performance?

Turning on the logging also consumes energy, and is not recommended to leave on permanently.
