Simple Set up - how to proceed

  • HI,

I'm new to Shelly, but have some experience with the use of smart home devices and IT. I recently purchased a Shelly Motion Sensor, with the very simple aim of getting it to detect motion and switch on a light. I have an exisiting installation using a SmartLife PIR sensor and a SmartLife light - but the response time is very slow, caused by poor performance in the PIR sensor. So, I thought that a Shelly PIR sensor would be a good replacement, and that I would easily be able to control the exisitng light via IFTTT, or possibly via Google Home.

Getting the Shelly Motion Sensor to be on the network amd reporting to the Shelly App was pretty easy. However, trying to get the Sensor to do anything useful has proved very difficult. I rather assumed that a serious player in the home automation field like Shelly would be registered with IFTTT as a service provider, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Google Home doesn't seem to support sensor inputs, so that path is closed. I've tried to find documentation that simply explains how Webhooks can tbe implemented for the set up I'm trying to achieve, but haven't found anything that makes sense.

I've encountered similar problems with other home automation devices, and it strikes me that there is a terrible lack of standardisation between manufacturers, which must surely be holding back the market for these devices. I think of myself as being pretty tech savvy (I've spent all my working life in IT related industries), but I have to admit i'm defeated by the complexity of what is currently available.

    Can anyone help?
