Flickering with Philips R7s

  • Hello,

I have issues with Dimmer 1 (Device ID: F3CBA8) and flickering with Philips CorePro Linear R7s LED bulb. Flickering is visible as 'high speed' flickering (approx. 15-20Hz) on basically any level below maximum 80-100%. Occasionally, it also has short bursts of flickering around 1-3Hz, then 'stabilizes' back to high speed one.

Flickering only really disappears when it's close to 100% output.

I've tried all combinations of trailing edge and leading edge calibration, also without any calibration, together with different values for Anti-flickering debounce in increments of 10, which don't seem to make any difference at all. Of course I'm on the latest 20211109-130937/v1.11.7-g682a0db firmware version available for the device. Input voltage is ~230V.
Dimmer is enclosed in Shelly Button housing, and N is connected properly.

    Any chance of fixing/solving this?

I'm otherwise extremely happy with all of my other ~15 shelly relays (mostly 1PM plus and 2.5) and have 0 problems with those, it's just this dimmer that's causing me issues... In a few days I will receive Dimmer 2 for another lamp (different LEDs too), I'm hoping the issue will not be present on that one. I'll probably try swapping the dimmer 1 for it if the newer one runs good on the other lamp.

    Thanks!

  • You can try an other LED?

My personal favorite is IKEA LEDARE dimmable. I've no problems with it,

  • Unfortunately, there aren't that many R7s type LED bulbs easily available, apart from this Philips one, I can get OSRAM which looks pretty much the same but for 1.5x-2x price, and IKEA has none.

I must point out that bulb works perfectly fine in the same lamp with it's original linear, transformer dimmer, which is expected. But, more importantly, also with a generic, trailing edge, button style dimmer I got from aliexpress, which I planned to remove as it doesn't have great integration with home assistant. I can provide a link to that one if needed.

  • Sadly, the situation with this particular lamp and bulb is the same with Dimmer2 as well. Most probably the problem is lack of (enough) filtering.

I received a pendant lamp, for which I planned to use Dimmer2, and that one has no problems and it is working fine with both Dimmer1 and 2. Difference is that this lamp has it's own power supply designed to be used with external dimmers.
